Thailand, Investigate Murder of Environmentalist!

Since 2001, 30 environmentalists and human rights activists have been killed in Thailand. Someone has been charged in fewer than 20% of the murders.

The most recent case is the murder of Prajob Nao-opas, an environmentalist who led a campaign to reveal the toxic waste being dumped in the Chachoengsao province. The toxins have gotten into water sources, coming from industries on the eastern seaboard of Thailand, and contain substances at a level that is 30 times the safe limit.

Prajob was warned by the police that there may be an attempted assassination of him, and he repeatedly reported being followed and photographed, but no protection was given to him. Similarly, inadequate witness protection has contributed to bad police work that has made it difficult to get justice for these victims.

Please tell the Thailand government to properly investigate the murder of Prajob Nao-opas and to change its practices so that this doesn't happen again!

Dear Thailand Government,

Recently, Prajob Nao-opas was killed, right when he was successfully leading a campaign to reveal the toxic waste being dumprf into the Phanom Sarakham and Plaeng Yao districts in Chachoengsao province. The toxins, coming from industries on the eastern seaboard of Thailand, have gotten into the water, with levels as high as 30 times the safe limit.

Prajob was given warnings that there might be an assassination attempt on him. However, when he reported to the police that he was being photographed and followed, no protection was given to him. Inadequate police work has led to no witness protection either, making it difficult to carry out a proper investigation for his murder as well as the 30 other activists that have been killed since 2001.

Please change these practices and ensure that these activists' killers are prosecuted as they should be. Thank you for your time.
