More Representation and Awareness for Women Domestic Equality

Dear Mr. Brown,

Women have taken strides for equal representation and rights in schools, court, and work since the creation of the Vindication of Women Rights to the signing of the Violence Against Women Act of 2005. Although many strides have taken place to ensure better rights for women, the initiative to report and enforce these rights hasn’t been prevalent throughout our society. Domestic violence in California is an incident that is hardly reported because of fear and unawareness of perpetual violence in a household. Not only is domestic violence a physical abuse, but it also is a psychological, spiritual, and emotional injustice.

Domestic Violence has been an issue fought against for many years, but statistics show that no major outcomes have resulted from these efforts. In California alone, one of every four women experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Only 176,299 domestic violence-related calls have been reported per year since 2006. That number doesn’t give justice to the real occurrence of domestic violence in our society. Approximately 40 percent of California women experience intimate partner violence, and this is most prevalent during women’s youth (18-24 years of age). Even though domestic violence has been reported, Attorney General’s report that the California criminal justice system is failing to issue restraining orders; they are failing to make the convicted serve; they are lacking the responsibility of prosecuting officers; and they are lacking coordination of criminal justice agencies.  These challenges demoralize the process of equality and righteousness expressed in the Constitution of United States. The most alarming issue is even though homicides have been decreasing, domestic violence has been reported to increase by 30% since 2008 to 2011.

Many leading factors of Women Suicide, homelessness, and children aggression are directly developed through domestic homicides and injustices.  Women commit more suicides than man, 4.5:1. Most of these suicidal actions are caused by stress and physical abuse from partners in relationships or marriage. Sadly it does not only increase the occurrence of Suicide, but also domestic violence is the 3rd leading cause of homelessness in America. Women are forced out of their house reluctantly by their partners to live on the street. Women aren’t the only ones who are affected by domestic violence, but Children are severely harmed as they watch violence occur in their households. Statistics show that 95% of children, who witness parental violence, will grow up with aggression and hardships in their later lives. Many psychologists think the aggression of the children is caused indirectly by their environment of their upbringings.

This pressing issue cannot be solved by imploring through a letter, but it can be solved by having participants sign and help pass this petition to alarm families or individuals about domestic violence in their society.
