say no to e-logs

Dear Mr. President,

It brings me great pride to see you in action and keeping your promises to make this Republic great again!
I realize that your plate is constantly full and you have so much to do but I would like to address a potential time bomb to our fragile economy that's being ignored.
In December, the FMSCA will enforce a new regulation going into effect then. This new reg is the mandatory ELD (Electronic Logging Device).
This mandate will effect approximately 2 million truckers. The ruse is that it will make us safer but the reality is that this will make the roads less safer due to increased trucks being on the roads because of the times we all start our days, cost drivers hundreds a week in lost revenue, slow down goods going to the warehouses, manufacturing and stores, smaller companies who will no longer have the ability to compete with the larger conglomerate companies will close up and the list goes on and on!
The already overloaded truck stops are starting to charge for parking because they know we have no other choice but to pay for parking or keep driving until we can find a wide spot somewhere to rest.
Imagine how much congestion will occur when almost 2 million trucks hit the cities at once because a computer tells them to do so.
Mr. President, as a builder, you know the importance of trucking and that we directly affect the economy as well as the economy effects us because we both go hand in hand.
You're also all too familiar with time deadlines to complete projects and any delay costs millions of dollars.
Picture delays across the board in manufacturing and retail and the picture is not very favorable to our fragile economy not to mention the costs of goods and services will also increase putting a strain on the consumer because the trucking companies will have to raise their rates to offset the demand for higher wages to get back what drivers they will lose.
Most trucks are already governed below 70 mph and the companies who already have e-logs are either shorter regional drivers who don't drive a lot of miles per day or their relaying or dropping loaded trailers in terminals or their scheduling is set for longer periods of time.
Where this ELD mandate will hurt is in the companies who drive long distances and have a tighter schedule because of customer demand.
You see Mr. President, no one in power ever talks to us "little guys" who deal with customers face to face and daily. No one cares what we have to say even though we're the ones in the trenches and have a real-time view of the real world.
No one asks for our input because we're insignificant to those in power from the CEO's of the trucking companies to the politicians who have no clue about our industry.
It's like putting Betty Crocker in charge of your building business. Sure, she'll make one heck of a cake but she'll be lost when a multi million dollar building is being proposed!
Mr. President, my hope is that with all you have to do, you'll be able to make time to at least look deeper into this and suspend it until a better analysis is done to study the negative effect this will have upon our fragile economy and the future of the small companies this will negativity effect.
I also hope that if you do address this, the people you delegate to research this will get down into the trenches with us lowly nobodies and get our input.
Believe me when I say that us truckers aren't a bunch of ignorant imbicils. We're highly educated, self sufficient, extremely resourceful and we can adapt to just about anything!
Thank you for your time Mr. President, you have the prayers and support of a grateful nation at your side.

Sincerely,
