Government Shutdown: CLOSE THE NATIONAL PARKS!!

  • by: Alex Bauer

The Department of the Interior has decided to leave our National Parks open during the government shutdown, but with over 19,000 staff members furloughed for the duration there is inadequate personnel available to provide clean and safe facilities. Additionally, the lack of park personnel has emboldened citizens to camp, dump their trash, and off-road illegally, damaging the natural habitat and providing a risk factor for local wildlife. We need park rangers and staff available to enforce the rules and ensure that our parks and lands are kept pristine and available for future generations. Without this needed enforcement the Parks should be closed to the public until the shutdown is over.
