Send the Plastic Bag Packing in Halifax

China, the world's biggest market for waste, has decided they will no longer accept waste from abroad. Now Halifax, which previously sent them millions of dollars worth of plastic bags and other materials, has to figure out a way to deal with the coming backlog of junk.

One option is for the city to ban plastic bags in the city altogether. While other cities have been leading the charge against this environmentally harmful product, Nova Scotia's capital has been dragging its feet and now it threatens to cause some serious financial and environmental problems if they don't deal with the waste responsibly.

As a coastal town Haligonians know first hand how harmful plastics are to our oceans. And without serious action, by all governments, there could be more plastic in our oceans than fish in less than 30 years. Something must be done and Halifax should lead the charge in Nova Scotia.

Sign the petition and tell the city of Halifax to follow in the footsteps of Montreal and Victoria and ban plastic bags in the municipality.
