The Creators and Writers of the Movie and TV Series of the franchise “How to Train Your Dragon” are rumoured to be planning on killing off the beloved dragon in the third movie. If this is to be the case, then I think those who agree it's a tremendously devastating and unwise move, should step up and say so. Hopefully we can save the adorable little creature that so many love so much. If nothing else, we can tell them what the fans thoughts are on the matter.

I adore the character of Toothless. I think the creators have mastered him into a creative, colourful (ignoring the fact he's stealth black) and inventive character. His multi-creature antics and appearance make for something unlike anything else I've ever seen on television. The idea that they plan on killing the poor dragon off is unthinkably appalling. How they could consider it to be a good idea, I fail to understand. Kids don't take things to mind, they take them to heart, and once something hits your heart you can't get rid of it, no matter what it is. So why not make them remember good things? Good lessons and good times? Why force more sad and more bad upon them when the real world will (sadly) more than take care of that?

The Character of Toothless is pure gold and they seem more than willing to turn that gold to ash, and I've let the society of media destroy, mutilate and disintegrate far too many good stories, for the sake of money, ratings or simply just poor conceptions. But this time I'm standing up and saying “no.”

If for nothing else but to tell them I/we think they are making a big mistake.
I can’t be the only one to think a dark, sad ending is a bad way to end such a fantastic story!

It may seem petulant to be campaigning for such a thing when there are many more justifiable causes out there, however I feel that lesser or not, every battle is worth its fight. This might not mean world peace but it is still worth speaking up for.

Toothless is a gem. There are little children's toys of Toothless, he’s adored like mad by millions, and I’m all for showing kids in small doses that life’s not always kind. But not this. They really shouldn’t kill off Toothless. It’s not going to be a good move if they do. I’d be devastated for one, Toothless teddies prices will suffer, and children WILL cry. What's to be gained by robbing the kids and the rest of us, of such a delightful, beautifully created and animated character? I’ve not seen a more fantastic multi–creature like him. And if this is all just hype then I think it needs a very new direction as I’m now fearing the release date, not looking forward to it.

It's been said the tactic is to explain why there's no more dragons today, but even though, being a period film, we know that all the characters have passed by our time, I see no reason why they have to graphically show why there are no dragons, and I sure don't think they need to show it by killing off Toothless. The softer suggestion in the other films, that he is the last of his own kind suggests why Night Fury's are not around now (other than the other reasons) I don't see why they need to risk the downfall of the franchise by killing off either Toothless or Hiccup, or even Astrid. Why can’t there be a happy ending? What’s with all the need to kill off characters and ruin good happy movies with graphic reality? I know Viking times were brutal, but peace and good things is what Hiccup has been fighting for all along. Killing off his best friend would be a testimony to him having lost that fight. It’s a good, wholesome fun and encouraging story. I don't see why they need to put too much heartbreak into it. Even the books have darker points for the beloved characters and I think they do the feel of Vikings rather well. But Killing off Toothless? No, that would be a bad move. I think it’ll be like killing off Olaf (from Frozen) In “How To Train Your Dragon 2” the sad parts were done in a light
way, a noble way and didn't make you feel depressed by the end. I don't see any good way to Kill off Toothless and not kill off the love.

Toothless has been a huge comfort to me since discovering the franchise a little over 2 weeks ago. He reminds me of a dearly loved pet of my own who was my best friend too, he passed away last year and it wasn't until I saw the movies that I realised I was shutting off all memories of my friend for fear they'd hurt too much. The antics of this remarkable creature reminded me of the good times and that they can shine brighter than the bad. I know how Hiccup would feel if they took Toothless from him and there is very little in the way of happiness left. It would taint the previous tales. They will still be good, but they will always be leading up to the end. There will be a shadow over the whole franchise if Toothless were to die. It would be tragic. Toothless offers up a good laugh and heartfelt, endearing moments both by himself and with Hiccup. There is far too many ill conceived shows and movies going around of late. Granted, there are a few good ones, but they often soon fall prey to disappointment when the writers and creators choose to take courses like this one.

Toothless means the world to many children, and the movies show how life can be good in spite of the bad times. It teaches children of loyalty, honesty, and being courageous. It teaches them about friendship and not discriminating between race, weakness or injuries, or whether you're human or a creature. It shows so much of the wholesome goodness I've missed so dearly from shows and movies of today. I think it's a irreplaceable story for the children and the fact it covers both books, film and TV shows merely makes it more accessible in many forms for the children to get that education or laughter.

There is no way they can kill off Toothless in a way that will not destroy all the goodness of all that's come before. It would be devastating to all children and even those of us adults who delight in this cunning, cheeky creature's antics.

In my campaign to collect votes, it's been suggested that distorting this dragon could help teach the children about death and dealing with loss. I agree this is a valid point, but I don't see the need to take it this far. I fear it'll install in children that only bad things happen in life and that there is nothing worth living for if it all just dies anyway. When this isn't true of the world. It'll scare the children into not making friends or taking that chance for fear it'll hurt them dearly to love if it's inevitable they will only loose in the end. For realism we have already seen the young hero Hiccup loose his mother, his left leg in battle and now in the second movie, his father. Vikings lives were brutal and indeed the death of his best friend would be befitting to the brutality of the era in which the series is set. However I've come to adore how this story paints the Vikings as humans, instead of simply blood thirsty monsters that knew nothing but how to fight, kill and steal. I don't believe we need to add more realism. The children will have to deal with the big scary world it's true, and it isn't always a field of roses, and elements of lessons and reality in stories is good, but too much of it can be bad. There are far too many stories that are too close to the world view. We need to show our children that; Yes, life is not a fairy tale, but that it isn't always a nightmare.

Killing off Toothless will not do any good to the story, or to those who love him dearly; both here, and in the story world.

If they do this, "How To Train Your Dragon" will never be the same again.

Toothless will be lost forever!
