Please Ban Animal Torture at Festival in Chalhuani!

In Chalhuani, Peru, there is a festival that is popular to many of the villagers where dogs are tied together as a form of entertainment.  This is an annual event in Peru that frequently leads to the death of the animals while spectators cheer on. During this form of “fun”, villagers would strap a dog they feel has “misbehaved” onto the back of a bull, releasing the animals into a bullfighting ring.  The action leads to the death of both animals. This is a sadistic, horrific form of entertainment that appears to be in violation of Peru’s animal welfare laws.  The hope is to encourage the Peruvian Government President to intervene and stop such animal abuse as that engaged in at the Festival in Chalhuani.

The effort in this petition is to do just that and encourage a ban on such animal cruelty and torture of animals as those that are occurring at this Festival each year.  We need to have the President step in and ensure that the festival goes on without engaging animals for pleasure or to close down this event and speak out in the protection of animals.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments in stopping such animal abuse and torture in Peru.

Ollanta Humala, President of Peru – It is highly disturbing that you currently allow the practices that occur at the Festival in Chalhuani.  During the event, it appears that villagers would strap a dog they feel has “misbehaved” onto the back of a bull, releasing the animals into a bullfighting ring.  The action leads to the death of both animals. This is a sadistic, horrific form of entertainment that appears to be in violation of Peru’s animal welfare laws. I strongly urge you to intervene immediately and ban this event from engaging in such animal cruelty and abuse. Such practices that violate your animal welfare laws also puts a stain on the country's beauty and international reputation.  Speak out in favor of innocent animals and ban any forms of entertainment that harms, neglects and abuses animals.
