STOP GOV. SCOTT & FL DEP FROM POISONING OUR WATER
Florida’s Dept. of Environment Protection (DEP) and Environmental Regulation Commission (ERC) are meeting on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 to vote on dramatically increasing the levels of toxic chemicals into our rivers, streams, lakes and coastal waters. Under this proposal legal limits will be raised on toxic chemicals known to cause cancer and other serious illnesses. These toxic chemicals pose a serious threat to the health of Florida residents and wildlife.
Fact: During the last election Floridians voted overwhelming for the Constitutional Amendment “Water and Land Conservation” to protect our environment.
Fact: Scientists, environmentalists and doctors are alarmed and expressing their opposition to this proposal which could go into effect this Fall.

Fact: The current limit for the chemical Benzene, a carcinogen that can cause leukemia, is 1.18 parts per billion. Under the “New” DEP criteria the cap would be 3 parts per billion. The current Federal standard is 1.14 per billion.
Why would the State want to subject its own population to a carcinogenic substance like Benzene? Environmentalists believe it’s because Benzene is essential in hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking. Although banned by most Florida cities, State legislators continue to push hard to pass bills permitting fracking. Last year the Florida House PASSED HB-191 which narrowly failed in the Florida Senate.
DESPITE THE CONCERNS RAISED BY SCIENTISTS, ENVIRONMENTALISTS AND MEDICAL DOCTORS AT PUBLIC WORKSHOPS HELD IN MAY, THE DEP IGNORED THEIR CONCERNS.
