STOP THE AUCKLAND AIRPORT IMPLEMENTING A NEW FLIGHT PATH

Auckland City is under siege from the air.  A trial of a shortcut approach to Auckland International Airport, the so called "Smart" approach  is bringing radical changes to once peaceful neighbourhoods. Low flying planes at all hours of the day and night are disrupting locals lives and if the new flight path is approved, then up to 50 planes a day will be using this approach, 24/7, 365 days of the year. This can't be allowed to happen. Mt. Eden, Epsom, One Tree Hill, Onehunga, Oranga and even some new Aircraft Noise disturbance at Sandringham and Mangere Bridge. Where next?.

The toxic environmental, physical and emotional effects of this trial are felt in Mt Albert, Mt Eden, Epsom, Royal Oak, One Tree Hill, Onehunga, Oranga and as far afield as Greenlane and the Remuera Victoria Ave ridge. 

It started with almost no public consultation of the areas to be affected and if it become permanent more than 50 planes will be using this approach on a daily basis, at all hours of the day and night.

This trial is causing intolerable noise pollution, daily disruptions to once peaceful neighbourhoods and potential health effects of exposure to levels of particulate pollution not previously experienced in these areas.

The trial, which is flying under a so called green flag, is undoubtedly solely about profit.  IT IS CORPORATE GREED! The cost benefit analysis for this activity relates solely to the bottom line of the "Stakeholders", namely Auckland International Airport (AIAL), Air New Zealand, Jetconnect (Qantas), Jetstar and Airways New Zealand. The costs of this activity are not "saved" as they would have you believe, rather they are passed on to those adversely affected both environmentally and economically by this trial.  

We are facing a noisy future health and lifestyle wise and an inevitable financial reduction in the value of our properties. For many, our life investment. If this "Smart" approach becomes permanent it will be noted on our LIM report that your house is now under a flight path. 

This is the most significant change to flight paths in New Zealand Aviation History. It involves moving an activity from an area where housing developments have sprung up under the flight path, unwisely rubber stamped by successive Manukau City Councils, to very old established areas of old Auckland City where residents have not been consulted. 

From the time the earthworks commenced in 1959 to the Airport opening in 1966, the flight path and subsequent development of the commercial area of Manukau city was subject to extensive community canvassing. Building regulations  were in place regarding both height and noise mitigating building standards. These were in consultation with the Manukau City council and to the Airport's requirements. Developments were signed off post Auckland Airport in Otara, Mangere and Manuwera and on out to Beachlands, all with full knowledge of the flight path. We had no part in this development and it appears if we do not stand together to defend our rights, we will have no choice but to accept our fate. 

WE WERE NOT CONSULTED AND WE STRONGLY OBJECT. WE DEMAND THAT THE "SMART APPROACHES TRIAL AND ITS ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES CEASE IMMEDIATELY AND NOT BE IMPLEMENTED AS A PERMANENT CHANGE

The Aukland Airport will have you believe that the "smart approach" trial will help reduce the environmental footprint of planes  (the less time they are in the air) and if planes can come in lower and faster in order to reach the airport more quickly , this will save time and money too. WE DEMAND THAT THE "SMART APPROACHES TRIAL AND ITS ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES CEASE IMMEDIATELY AND NOT BE IMPLEMENTED AS A PERMANENT CHANGE.
