Provide Female Prisoner's With Menstrual Sanitary Pads

  • by: Ann W

The Guardian recently published a shocking article about the practice by U.S. prison systems that do not provide an adequate supply of sanitary pads for menstruating prisoners. Menstruating is an involuntary biological function and not having proper supplies creates a humiliating and unsanitary environment.

Women are resorting to trying to make one pad last as long as possible, while others have to endure the humiliation of bleeding through their clothes.

Unfortunately, there is not a single government agency that oversees the actions of state prisons. In this light, I would like to first address this petition to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in the hope it can encourage state level prisons to correct this disgraceful practice. Afterall, how can society expect to rehabilitate prisoners properly if they treat them with inhumane practices?

Please sign this petition encouraging all prison systems within the United States to provide the necessary supplies for women to live in a healthy and non-degrading manner!

Dear Charles E. Samuels, Jr.
Director Federal Bureau Of Prisons

We (the undersigned) are signing this petition in the hopes that you will find a way to use your professional capacity to encourage state level prisons throughout the United States to stop depriving female prisoners of an adequate supply of sanitary pads to be used during menstruating. Recent news indicates that female prisoners are having to resort to using one pad for as long as possible or go completely without. This is degrading, unsanitary, and demoralizing.

Please encourage your state counterparts to do the humane thing and provide women with these necessary health supplies.

Sincerely,
