EXPLORATION IN THE SALDANAH BAY MUNICIPAL AREA
I am vehemently opposed the current application for exploration rights on portions of the farms Duykerfontein and Schuitjiesklip in the Saldanah Bay Municipal area. I hereby implore the St Helena Bay ward counsillor to come to my assistance herein.
Mining has turned its eyes on the fragile Westcoast of South Africa. More and more mining applications see the light of day and the ones already in operation are for the larger part operating outside of the law, causing untold damage to the environment. When they are caught, all that happens is a small fine has to be paid and then it is back to damaging both land and sea. This conduct robs the people who wage a living out of the sea of their very livelyhood.
We already experience severe water restrictions and we just do not have enough water resources to go around for domestic use and mining. PLEASE PUT A STOP TO THIS!!
I am further vested in the preservation of the Westcoast and I hereby voice my strongest opposition to to granting of any further exploration rights, mining rights and or mining permits on the coastal region between Cape Town and Kleinsee, untill a high level panel of experts has had the opportunity to do a scientific, environmental, economic and sustainable development viability spatial study and brought out a report.
