President of Spain: condemn human rights violations in Turkey

The situation in Turkey is turning more and more serious. Since the failed military coup, the Turkish Government is carrying out a “purge” to clean out all the political enemies of President Erdogan, and thousands of people are being imprisoned without guarantees and being subjected to degrading treatment, deprivation of food and sleep, abuses and severe torture.

The failed coup can not be an excuse to allow President Erdogan to impose an authoritarian rule and to crush Human Rights and democratic freedoms of Turkish citizens. It’s outrageous that a president who defined himself as a “defender of democracy” is repressing the people of his country in such a terrible way.

Meanwhile, despite that Turkey is a prominent partner of the EU and a member of NATO, European countries are avoiding to take a stand condemning without excuses these facts.

It’s time for countries committed to democracy to take action on the matter and to make clear to Turkey that they will not tolerate this dictatorial drift. Spain should be one of them, giving example as a defender of freedom and democracy with a clear condemnation of the events that are taking place in Turkey.

Join me and sign now this petition to ask President Rajoy to condemn the Human Rights violations in Turkey.

Mr. President,

Spain must give example as a defender of freedom and democracy with a clear condemnation of the Human Rights violations that are taking place in Turkey.
