Mr. Washington’s parole hearing is scheduled for October 12. Help me to ensure our voices are heard for the sake of public safety and on behalf of Tony’s family.

I am the mother of Antonio “Tony” James Phillips, who was murdered on August 8, 2011. Three individuals were involved in my son’s murder, one of whom is Bronx Shavon Washington.

I believe that Bronx Washington should be denied parole due to the role he played in my son’s murder. Since his conviction for facilitated aggravated robbery and facilitation to commit second degree murder, Mr. Washington has only served EIGHT MONTHS in prison (following two years in County jail, credited as time served).

Tony was a talented musician with dreams of sharing his gift of music with the world. However, Tony’s dreams were cut short when Mr. Washington led two other individuals and made the decision to rob and murder Tony in his home. These violent actions can never be undone. No person has the right to take another’s life under any circumstances. Those who are complicit and lead the way to such heinous acts, such as Mr. Washington, should face consequences that are commensurate with such an evil act. A brief EIGHT MONTHS in prison is an egregious miscarriage of justice, given Mr. Washington’s history of criminal activity. He has not earned the right to walk free among the public after such a brief period of incarceration.

Please consider the following CRIMES committed by Mr. Washington since 2011:
• CASE B1C0723C: FAC AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
• CASE B1C0723C: FAC SECOND DEGREE MURDER
• CASE B4C00231: SCHEDULE VI DRUGS: NOT LESS THAN 1/2 OZ

Mr. Washington has unarguably demonstrated a lack of self-correction and self-control, and a continued trend of disregard for the law in his continued refusal to be a law-abiding member of the community. While Mr. Washington waited to be tried and sentenced in the above cases, he continued his lifestyle of CRIME, with a complete lack of regard to the laws of the land. Consider the following crime, committed in 2014.
• CASE 60865: MFG/DEL/SALE/POSSESS CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

I believe it would be an absolute injustice for Mr. Washington to be granted parole at this time. If he is released, he will have the opportunity to go home—an opportunity that my son will never have. Home for Mr. Washington is the very community where he facilitated the murder of Tony Phillips, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Please consider the public’s safety by ensuring that Bronx Washington continues to serve his sentence for the crimes he committed.
