It is absolutely true that all pet owners have concerns about wolves and coyotes. As the owner of small dogs, I do not allow my pets outdoors without concerns of surrounding wildlife, including that of nearby wolves and coyotes. As a responsible owner, you surely don’t want your pets to fall prey to a hungry wolf, and that is understandable.

A recent petition was circulated to stop the hunt and killing of wolves and coyotes. Looking at the perspective of the wild animals, they are only looking for ways to survive in the environment and cannot distinguish between a pet and prey in the wild. Hunting and killing them is not an answer or resolution. In fact, Idaho held a type of festival with prizes for those who kill the most wolves and coyotes. This is very disturbing and poor hunting practices. A hunt should not be a legal practice if not for food, which is not the case here. These animals are under threat for survival but they do deserve to exist, just not in residential areas.

Most of the states do not provide protection for wolves and coyotes. Their population has already decreased by half. Without protection, these animals will become an endangered species. If these animals end up in areas where they are not welcome, pet owners should just be cautious and authorities should be alerted. Maybe it would be possible to capture but not kill the animals and relocate them to an area away from human habitation.

For the wolf to survive and thrive on the American landscape, we must make our voices even louder and demand continued protection and open hearts for these beautiful and beneficial animals.

Idaho Federal Government Legislators – It is shameful that your state consider the hunt and kill of wolves and coyotes as a pleasure and fun sport. This type of behavior could definitely border on animal abuse and cruelty because the animal is doing what is natural. It is true that these animals should not be present in residential areas but hunting and killing them is not the answer or resolution. You need to implement federal laws to protect the wolves and coyotes so that they do not become an endangered species. Stop killing the animals but possibly trap and relocate them away from humans when spotted so that they can exist as nature intended for them. They need you to provide them Federal Protection
