Petition to shut done construction sit at 106 Carver Terrace

The residents of Puritan and Harvard Avenues, and the surounding areas, will no longer tolerate the business being run out of the backyard of 106 Carver Terrace.  Our quality of life has been severly affected by thr constant noise and air pollution.  We are concerned for our health and well-being and need to put an end to this now.

To Whom it may concern,
For the past seven years we the undersigned, residents of Puritan and Harvard Avenues, as well as the immediate surroundind areas, have been forced to tolerate the activities, noise, and by-products of what appears to be a rock quarry operation in the back yard of 106 Carver Terrace.  We had been given several excuses for the machinery, noise, and the digging.  We were toldthay have a permit for an addition, and later that they were digging to put in a pool.  As stated this has been an active construction site for seven years.  There is no pool.  How someone can obtain a permit and operate a rock quarry is a residential neighborhood is beyond our understanding.  The activities at 106 and/or 100 Carver Terrace begin early in the morning and often end well past normal business hous, usually six days a week, without regard for the neighbors.
These concerns have been reported to the City of Yonkers, and local politicians many times thoughout 2008 - 2009.  The constant air and noise pollution have finally compelled us to organize and speak up.  In May of 2009 the site was shut down and the tarp that hid the operation for  years (photos 1&2) was removed.  We finally had a good look the
boulders that had been harvested from the ground.  With our curiousity peeked we viewed the area for a neighbor's yard and then his attic, which revealed a hole approximately 15' - 20' deep.  The finished products of this harvesting was clear to see, Palettes of granite bolcks ( see Photos), as well as stones and boulders of all sizes, stored thoughout the property.  The heavy construction machinery consists of an earth mover, a compessor, a rock splitter and a rock cutter ( see photos).  The use of this machinery creates a constant din and clouds of rock dust that have reached every home on the block, and many surrounding homes.  Unfortunately, to our dismay, the operation started up again in the first week of June 2009.
The homes most affected by the noise and the dust are on Puritan Avenue.  Among the residents are a severely disabled child,  nine children, six under the age of six, an 86 year old multiple stroke victim, and a young women with Muliple Sclerosis.  Some of the neighbors work evenings and nights, and need to rest during the day, yet they are not able to do so in their own homes.  There are numerous instances among us of headaches, coughing, sneezing, and nose bleeds.  The dust is everywhere; on our cars, window sills, our air conditioning vents, our homes, and in our pools.  We're questioning the long term health affects of inhaling this stuff for years.
The fact that there is an operational construction site/rock quarry on our block has limited our ability to enjoy our own property, may have hampered the sale of a home on Puritan Avenue, and is an eye sore.  The noise, chipping, digging and the clouds of dust have got to stop.  Please help us yut an end to the violation, which has been destroying the quality of our lives for far too long.  It is hard to believe that these people can profit while so many are suffering.
