Missouri: Don't Force Students to Take Military Enlistment Test!

Starting next year, the Missouri School Improvement Program will force high schools to administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program (ASVAB-CEP), a military recruitment exam, to determine whether students are "college and career ready."

Students are already inundated with standardized tests when their time could be spent better on schoolwork and extracurricular activities. College-bound students will already be taking the ACT and/or SAT tests, and sometimes the SAT IIs. There is no need for them to take an additional military exam when most won't enter the service and many are morally against the military. Forcing students to take this test is a thinly-veiled strategy to collect their information and release it to the Department of Defense. Students will then receive unwanted phone calls and mailings asking them to join the service.

If students wish to join the military, they can register for the ASVAB-CEP the same as college-bound students register for the SATs. Requiring students to take this military recruitment exam is a waste of their valuable learning time and an invasion of their privacy. Please sign the petition to urge Missouri State School Officials to drop the ASVAB-CEP requirement!

We, the undersigned, are concerned about Missouri's plans to administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program (ASVAB-CEP), a military recruitment exam, to determine whether students are "college and career ready."

We believe that students are already inundated with standardized tests when their time could be spent better on schoolwork and extracurricular activities. College-bound students will already be taking the ACT and/or SAT tests, and sometimes the SAT IIs. There is no need for them to take an additional military exam when most won't enter the service and many are morally against the military. Forcing students to take this test seems to be a thinly-veiled strategy to collect their information and release it to the Department of Defense.

We respectfully urge you to drop the ASVAB-CEP requirement in Missouri schools. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
