Senated Bill 5614 would extent the waiting period for divorce from the current 90 days to a full 1 year! It's been dubbed the "Family Second Chances Act" The idea is that increasing the waiting period for a divorce will empower couples to think long and hard about their decision and possibly find ways to reconcile.

As it is, for those who are divorcing abusive spouses the current 90 days is too long a wait. Filled with fear and abuse from those they are divorcing. This New bill, if voted in by our senators would be making that wait a living hell for the abused. Many are forced into hiding until the court dates are done and the waiting period gone. Just being able to get away from their abusers is a dream come true, don't make the abused seeking a divorce go through further hell!
