Louisiana: Resist Trump's Efforts to Destroy our Coast and Communities

President Trump has announced the U.S. will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas pollution and keep global warming within 2 degrees of current temperatures.

This is completely unacceptable. If Trump gets his way, our economy will forfeit our leadership role in the developing clean energy field and U.S. goods would be hit with higher tariffs when exported. All while guaranteeing our communities will be hammered by rising seas, stronger storms, droughts, deluges and forest fires.

It is hard to imagine communities more vulnerable to climate change impacts than those of South Louisiana. Louisiana is already losing a football field worth of coastal wetlands every hour. As sea-level rise increases due to global warming, much of our beloved state will be underwater, and waves will be lapping at the floodwalls surrounding New Orleans.

It's important for state and local leaders to oppose Trump's horrible decision. New York Mayor Bill De Blasio and California Governor Brown have already indicated their commitment for NYC and CA to abide by the Paris agreement. We need Louisiana leaders to follow their direction and proudly and loudly commit to implementing Paris no matter what foolishness is coming from the White House.

Please sign this petition and urge Governor John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu to stand up for global action on climate change – despite President Trump's irresponsible decision.
