Please sign and share this petition in an effort to encourage the Indian Government with Law Enforcement Protection for those who are trying to enforce the laws against poaching. Issues with poachers is an ongoing problem and difficult for people to try and control it when poachers are also armed with guns and other weapons. Law enforcement needs to be involved in an effort to stop this horrific and common occurrence in India.

As is common in India, forest guards were pulled out of their bed in the middle of the night in an effort to catch poachers. These guards managed to spot the poachers but before they could pounce on them, the poachers unleashed machetes at them; the guards were not armed with guns. With machetes swishing a hair's breadth away, the guards managed to repel the poachers who fled in panic. The poaching will never stop until they are backed by law enforcement that can enforce the "no poaching" laws.

Year after year, these guards continue to remain poorly equipped against poachers, which is common knowledge to those harming and killing the animals. The numbers of patrol cannot keep up with them as well. One of the patrols stated "Every member of our team patrols over 15kms every day either walking or travelling in jeeps with insufficient equipment. Apart from poachers, sometimes there's every chance of wild animals attacking us. How can a man patrol the forest without a gun and a torch?"

The poachers know that there is little that can be done to stop them! A senior forest officer admitted that lack of modern weapons and maintenance of wireless sets and weapons are burning issues. "Bandipur in India is known for tiger sightings among tourists and wildlife, but sadly no one understands our difficulties," the officer said. Even with a lack of weapons, they have been rather success against the poaching of tigers but they still need help and back up by law enforcement in order to protect all wildlife from danger of death and poaching.

Indian Government Officials - Please do more to protect your wildlife from poachers. Offenders already know that the patrols and rangers can't stop them from these offenses because they have no weapons to stop them and do not have any law officials backing them up. You need to train more people and provide law enforcement to back up and work with the patrols and rangers in an effort to stop poaching. Punish the poachers when caught, severely and stop the abuse. Until these patrols have this type of backup with weapons against poachers, it will not end. Protect your wildlife and engage law enforcement to work together with rangers and patrols in doing so.
