Mississippi Dangerous Dog Law

  • by: Bryan Lacher
  • recipient: To Save both Pit Bulls and mixed bred dogs with pit bull in them

Mississippi passed House Bill 1261 which defines a dangerous dog as a " Any pit bull dog in a class of dogs that specifically includes the breeds of American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire bull dog, and any other pure bred or mixed breed dog that is a combination of these dog breeds.

This bill states that these dogs would need to be muzzled and on a leash when not on the owner's property. The owners have to post signs warning people of a dangerous dog. The bill also states that a person that has been convicted of a felony can't own a dog that is classified as a "dangerous dog."

Law enforcement offers are allowed to shoot the dogs on the list if it's not restrained or if they are in fear of the dog possibly attacking them.

The American Society of Cruelty to Animals (ASCA) are against the law. The ASCA claim this law is ineffective, inhumane, and costly. These specific breed dangerous dogs are often killed and euthanized just due to their breed.

Any breed can be known to bite. Dogs protect their owners and surroundings. Dogs often will bite, or gnarl when provoked, abused, or teased. Most any dog can be loving if treated so. Pit bulls have been labeled dangerous because several people train them to become fight dogs. People often see a dog that looks big and scary and the natural instinct is to run from them. When you run from a dog or other large animal, they see you as prey and they will run after you and attack. Large dogs aren't the only ones that bite and attack. This is where the love and treatment of animals come into play.

Help save both pit bulls and all large animals from House bill 1261. And show the animals we all know and love the support and care they rightfully deserve by being nice and passionate to them. Not all animals are bad, Show both the Government and Humane Society that we love our dogs and All of the animals we live with in this world.
