Send Japan A Message - Cease Whaling Now

  • by: Mark Jones

Last year the International Court of Justice and the International Whaling Commission have said that the Japanese whaling efforts are illegal, that they are not being carried out as has been legally recognised. They ceased operations for a short while but have now decided to send their whaling fleet out to commence once more.

Their sheer arrogance is a slap in the face to the rest of the world which now watches on with their hands held firmly behind their backs. Governments sit idle in fear of the economic repercussions of speaking out, so it is time that the people of the world express their disapproval at what is now about to unfold. Japan agreed to let the court to rule on its actions and despite initially agreeing, they have now shown that they are above the law and that they never really intended to abide by anything but what suited themselves.

We the people of the world must unite as one voice and ensure that there is no whaling carried out. We must ensure that the governments of the world stand together in condemnation of the action Japan has begun.

Dear Minister Hunt.

The time has come for the Australian Government to actin the face of the arrogance shown by Japan as it commences its whaling program once more in defiance of the International Court of Justice. The time for small talk must come to an end and on behalf of the world we implore you to make representations to the Japanese Prime Minister and invoke economic sanctions until they agree to comply with the laws they sought to be subject of twelve months ago.

It is unacceptable that any country should stand and watch now
