LA FIDO KOMME HJEM TIL RUBEN! LET FIDO RETURN HOME TO RUBEN!

*ENGLISH BELOW*

LET FIDO RETURN HOME TO RUBEN!

Fido the dog has supported Ruben during his 4year recovery from drug addiction. Ruben was given financial support from The Norwegian Labor and Welfare Administration (NAV) and the municipality of Bodø to purchase Fido to help with his drug rehabilitation. On October 19th, 2013 a fire broke out in Rubens apartment and the police removed Fido from the home, allegedly because the dispatched firefighters reported him as aggressive. In reality, Fido never actually attacked the firefighters. Following these events the police in Salten, put forth a claim to have Fido euthanized, as they believed him to be an “illegal breed” covered by the current dangerous dog act and breed specific legislation. As Ruben did not have documentation to prove the specific breeding of Fido, nor was Fido ID tagged, Fido was then placed in boarding kennels awaiting final judgment. This case luckily received considerable media attention and an attorney was hired to represent Ruben and Fido, who filed for an extension of the euthanasia ruling. Following this, Fido’s breeder was located and provided heritage documentation, which was approved and accepted by the police and appointed veterinarian. The documentation proved that Fido is an American Bulldog, therefore not an illegal breed covered by the current legislation.

HENCE, THE CLAIM PUT FORTH BY THE POLICE THAT FIDO SHOULD BE EUTHANIZED BECAUSE HE WAS AN ILLEGAL BREED WAS OVER RULED.

Unfortunately the case did not end here, the police have now changed their original claim to a new one, stating that Fido should be “EUTHANATIZED OR REHOMED DUE TO AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR”. It is important to note that prior to the October 19th, 2013 fire incident, there have been no reports, claims or other documentation suggesting that Fido has ever shown aggressive behavior during the 4year period he spent with Ruben. Please see the following link regarding Fido’s case

https://www.politi.no/salten/aktuelt/Nyhet_13321.xhtml

The Police have now provided the following statement: “As a consequence of the media coverage the police have received information claiming that the dog has on several occasions shown aggressive behavior before it was seized by the police. It has been reported that the dog has attacked other dogs in the neighborhood on 3 separate occasions. This, in addition to the fact that during his incarceration in the kennels, Fido has attacked and bitten a person, has resulted in the police now requiring euthanasia or rehoming as the only solution for Fido given his aggressive behavior”.

It is worth noting that the original report of the kennel attack mentioned a bruise only, which was later changed to a “bite”. No visible marks on the skin or clothing of the person who was allegedly attacked were reported. Furthermore the person in question is not qualified as a dog handler but works as a kennel hand. Interestingly, Rubin was not informed of this incident and the kennel has not filed a formal complaint with the police.

HENCE THE CURRENT CLAIM PUT FORTH BY THE POLICE THAT FIDO SHOULD BE EUTHANATIZED OR REHOMED IS NOT BASED ON ANY ACTUAL INCIDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE POLICE OR THAT HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED IN ANY OTHER WAY.

Although there is still no formal ruling of euthanasia, it is clear that the police require either euthanasia or rehoming for Fido. Additionally, the police in Salten have previously required a temperament test performed by their own dog handler at the police academy in Kongsvinger, but this was cancelled. This dog handler has publically criticized Ruben for using negative reinforcement (violent and abusive). Due to the public criticism, this handle is now prohibited from testing and testifying in this case and the police are trying alternative solutions to having him behavior tested. We have a partial victory in this case, we have proven and overturned the claim that Fido is an “illegal breed”, our next goal is to overturn the current claims by the police that Fido is aggressive and qualifies for either euthanasia or rehoming!!! Fido has been too long in boarding kennels already, which would have negative effects on any dog, both physically and mentally.

We DEMAND that Fido is released to Rubens custody immediately so they both can have their lives restored!! A temperament test can be performed at a later date by an unbiased professional.

This is a DEMAND! Fido is not without rights, please show your support by signing this campaign!

All collected signatures will be delivered to Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Minister of Justice Anders Anundsen and Salten police department.
