Stop Injustice: End Cruelty and Neglect of Hoarded Brittany Spaniels

  • by: Lafourche Chapter
  • recipient: Sheriff Craig Webre, Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office

Anywhere from 30-70 Brittany Spaniels are living in deplorable conditions in Thibodaux, Louisiana. They are covered in flies, matted, living in their own urine and fecal matter, ill, left without food, water, or shelter for hours on end and in all weather conditions. The neighbors cannot have any peace due to the barking that goes on day and night without end. The fecal matter in the ditches on the neighbors' properties is literally off the chart.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's office is not taking the case seriously and is refusing to see justice served. The man has over 29 citations against him for noise ordinacnes, failure to vaccinate, animal cruelty, and other charges. He continues to walk free and torment these dogs and the neighbors, possibly due to the fact that he was formerly employed in internal affairs in the parish.

The sheriff has stated  "they must be looking at a different set of animals because that is an absolute gross distortion and misrepresentation."  He has also made the statement Will we allow them [Humane Society] to tell us what animal cruelty is?  Absolutely not.  They are not a police officer.  They don't have law enforcement investigative authority, and their opinion has no value in a court of law."

We as a Humane Society have investigated many cases of cruelty in this parish. None have been more horrifying than this one, due to the sheer number of dogs, the horrendous conditions, and the lack of support from the law enforcement that is supposed to be helping us. The conditions could be worse, but the current conditions are horrible enough to warrant action.

We have rescues waiting to be able to help these dogs. We have photographic evidence of the cruelty enflicted upon these poor animals. My heart is sickened by the gross negligence of the owner and the lack of support from law enforcement.

We the people demand that justice be served.
