Demand an Independent Investigation into Rick Scott's "Baileygate"

Troubling allegations have been raised that Florida Governor Rick Scott fired Florida's former Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Commissioner Gerald Bailey for refusing to participate in unethical campaign activities on behalf of the governor.

Former Commissioner Bailey has a long track record as an upstanding public servant, and given that the FDLE is charged with investigating Florida political corruption, it's outrageous to think that Gov. Scott would ask Commissioner Bailey to put aside his independence to further Gov. Scott's political campaign.

The citizens of Florida deserve the truth, and need to know if their Governor is willing to put unethical politics ahead of the public good. Sign the petition today and Care2 and Progress Florida will urge an independent federal investigation into these troubling allegations surrounding Governor Scott.

We, the undersigned, urge you to launch a thorough, independent investigation into “Baileygate”, the growing scandal over Gov. Rick Scott’s actions surrounding the termination of FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey.


Commissioner Bailey had a spotless record and media reports indicate his firing was retribution for his refusal to participate in unethical campaign activities on behalf of the governor. If media reports are true, Gov. Scott violated federal and state laws, including misusing his official position as governor.


The FDLE is charged with investigating political corruption in our state and must remain free from political influence and meddling. We urge you to thoroughly investigate the Baileygate scandal to determine if any state or federal laws were broken.
