Take action to save the coral reefs of Antigua and Barbuda

  • by: Eli Fuller
  • recipient: Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer

The country of Antigua and Barbuda is unique in the Caribbean because of it's diverse coastal environment. Due to the lack of fisheries management our natural resources have been hit very hard over the years and recently we have seen a large scale export of lobster all around the Caribbean and even to China. We export thousands of pounds of reef fish a week to the French islands and endangered species including turtles are killed as by catch in the unsustainable net fishing methods that are predominantly used. The legally established Marine Protected Areas are not protected and every type of fishing imaginable is used without visible or noticeable management. The government needs to impliment the new Fisheries Legislation which has been sitting unsigned on the Minister's desk. Please sign this petition to ask PM Spencer to take action. It's time for a change!
