Ban the Use of Live Tiger as HS Mascot in Ohio

The Washington High School in Ohio currently uses a live young tiger as its school mascot which is cruel and abusive treatment of the animal.  The poor little tiger is kept confined in a cage and then is introduced to hundreds of people amidst sports activities which is devastating and frightening to the animal.

The little tiger mascot is named Obie who travels with the football team whenever they perform away games. This has been a tradition at the school for some time but activist and others have concerns about the health and well-being of this young animal.  A football game is not the place for a wild animal as such with sensitive hearing and potentially dangerous instincts.

There are many other methods of acquiring a mascot and getting in the spirit of the game for the school but using a live wild animal in such a manner is abusive and harmful to the cub.  We are urging the school authorities to ban the use of a wild animal in any manner as mascot from this day forward. You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.  This animals and others like it belong in their natural habitat, not in school or on a crowded football field.

Principal: Brad Warner C&T Director: Jamey Palma, Washington High School – We strongly urge you to stop using live wild animals like Obie as a mascot for your school and sports activities.  This is cruel treatment of an animal that has with sensitive hearing and potentially dangerous instincts.  These animals belong in the wild, not in school or on a football field.  Stop using live animals as mascots in order to get everyone engaged in the school spirit.
