Allow Large Dog Ownership in China

An ordinance in China has a one dog policy- and restricts the size of pets. The large dog ban even applies to blind people who would use them as guide dogs.

A Beijing city ordinance of 2008 prevents residents from keeping large dogs that stand taller than 35 centimeters at the shoulder. Violators can be fined $650 and have their dogs confiscated.

Contrary to the steroetype- not eveyone in China eats dogs. There is a growing number of animal lovers who break the law to keep their beloved pets and fight for animal rights.

We ask the Chinese government to reconsider the antiquated law and allow dog owners to determined the size of animal they can keep. This would keep many dogs off the street and out of shelters as responsible dog owners spay and nueter their pets and have them vaccinated against rabies. Pet ownership should be encourged- not discouraged.
