Trudeau: Keep Your Election Promise and Protect Our Water

In the election campaign Trudeau and the Liberals promised that they would protect more waters, including 5% of coastlines from commercial activities by 2017. Thus far, they have only protected a measly 0.11% and have nothing in the works to meet their 2017 deadline.

Protecting the coastline is incredibly important for the environmental health of the country. The previous Harper government decimated the fresh water and coastline protections and removed key funding to the Experimental Lakes Area that was an essential part of fresh water monitoring in the country.

Trudeau's Liberals must meet their election promises and protect more coastlines and reinstate the Experimental Lakes Area in Northern Ontario in order to ensure that we have clean waters for generations to come.

To Prime Minister Trudeau,

As a person who is very concerned with water issues, I urge you to move forward immediately on meeting your elections promises of water protection.

Your platform promised 5% of coastlines protected from development by 2017 and yet, currently, there is only 0.11% protected. You also promised to reinstate the Experimental Lakes Area in Northern Ontario which has yet to be done.

Our waters are a vital and necessary resource that must be protected.
