Justice for Spartacus

"This may be one of the worst cases of animal cruelty Dachshund Rescue of South Florida (DRSF) has ever dealt with. Spartacus was surrendered by his owners to Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAS), Friday, April 29, 2011, in severe pain and is currently on Morphine. We were told he had infected, open wounds from what the owner said were %u201Cbird bites%u201D. But as you can see, Spartacus is suffering from what appears to be, according to our veterinary, burns." (From DRSF Website).

"It is stunning, shocking - absolutely unbelievable that Spartacus' owners were not arrested on the spot when they surrendered him to the shelter.

According to DRSF, an investigation will be conducted on behalf of Spartacus - they plan on somehow getting to the bottom of how he came to be in this sad state of health." (From Dog News Examiner by Penny Eims).

Why in the world was the owner not arrested or held on-the-spot? Regardless of the background "story" MDAS was told, ANY animal arriving in such condition, should have raised hundreds of red flags. MDAS was negligent in allowing this individual or individuals to just walk out the door.

A full investigation needs to be conducted to a) find the owner, b) find out what really happened to this poor dog, and last but not least, c) find out why MDAS allowed the owner to dump the dog and leave.

We the undersigned would like to know why the owner of this severely injured and suffering animal was allowed to dump him and leave Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAS)?

It is obvious there is more to this. It was irresponsible for MDAS to allow the owner to just walk away.

Thank you very much for addressing our concern.
