Bridge the Gap: Build a bicycle/pedestrian bridge connecting west Alameda and downtown Oakland

  • by: Bike Walk Alameda
  • target: City of Alameda, City of Oakland, and Alameda County Transportation Commission

We believe the City of Alameda and the City of Oakland should create real biking and walking options between West Alameda and Oakland. A bicycle and pedestrian bridge is the only option that would provide 24x7, convenient, enjoyable and reliable access for everyone.

This solution would:

- Reduce traffic congestion through and around the Webster and Posey tubes

- Provide access to BART and Amtrak for Alameda’s West End residents

- Generate new recreational opportunities for residents on both sides of the estuary

- Increase patronage for local businesses in Jack London Square, Alameda Landing, Marina Village and on Webster Street

- Promote healthy lifestyles

- Reduce drive-alone trips

- Decrease emissions and improve air quality

- Connect communities and better showcase the estuary

ACTION Alert: We need your help to count the number of people walking and biking. We’ll be conducting a count on Tuesday 10/25 and Wednesday 10/26.
Contact: info@bikewalkalameda.org.
As part of our Bridge the Gap campaign, we want to see how biking and walking has changed in the 10 years since we counted last.

What: Volunteer to count bike and pedestrian traffic for two hours or the whole two days!

When: Tues, 10/25 and Weds 10/26
