After more than 139,000 people came to her aid by signing a Care2 petition, a Saudi Arabian court commuted the death sentence to a short jail term instead. We are overjoyed that this woman -- a mother of three children -- will no longer be slowly, barbarically murdered for the "crime" of having sex. But let us be clear: there is more work that still needs to be done.
The Saudi government has not released information on how long the housemaid's jail sentence will be -- yet the man with whom she had an affair was given 100 lashes and then set free.
We demand that the Saudi Arabian Legal System free this unnamed Sri Lankan woman from prison. Do not punish a woman for something as private as her personal life, and do not leave her children motherless!

Sri Lanka and other developping countries in the Asia and Africa send housemaids to Saudi Arabia to work as domestic workers. They are essentially enslaved and treated as the employing family's private property. These women do not speak Arabic nor do they understand the laws of the Saudi Sharia system.
