Student Uniform Petition

Hello Principle, fellow students and teachers. It has come to my attention that a uniform policy that requires every student to wear the same or close to the same uniform is being discussed. Westside High school is a school with a very diverse ethnic base that covers different race, religions, creeds, ethnic and social economic spectrums. At present these differences are encoded in the variety of dress in the student body and allows the students to remain in a great learning environment while still expressing ones individuality.

At present I want to high light all the pros of the Westside student body while not being forces to adhere to a mandated uniform policy that takes away from the students individuality.

- many highly preforming student from across the city choose Westside above other Non-Specialized magnet school because they aren't required to wear uniforms.

- many H.I.S.D schools that are wearing mandated similar uniforms have lower test scores and higher on campus incidents.

- it cost more to purchase clothing that can only be worn to school verses wearing them to many different social and functional activities.
