Keep up the protest: roaming dogs are being poisioned in Peru

Stop the slaughter of some 2500 roaming dogs who will suffer a long and agonizing death in the city of Juliaca near Lake Titicaca in Peru. Your international support will strengthen the fight to stop this vicious practice of poisoning roaming dogs;among councils in Peru. With your help, animal welfare groups can further their fight to make this a flagship case against the use of poison inPeru. Mayor David Mamani has approved a 'project' to poison 2500 roaming dogs not identified as vaccinated against rabies. Four cases of rabies in humans were recorded last year.Local animal welfare groups are valiantly fighting, ;insisting that the measure is cruel, unethical, illegal and ineffective. This 'animal control', which makes animals writhe in agony for as long as 20 minutes, has been described by the WHO as 'obsolete'. Welfare groups are demanding that the council  promote vaccination, which costs much the same as the poison bait, and for educating people to vaccinate their animals, spay/neuter and keep them under control. . This is a high profile case, and will serve as an example to other authorities that it is unacceptable. If rabies is the problem, then vaccination is the answer.
