Urge Stronger Justice for Abused Dogs by Woman in Dolton Found not Guilty

Dogs found starved, chained and locked up with no human contact!!  A woman was arrested recently for the abuse of eight dogs discovered in her care when people noticed an emaciated dog outside of the home, crying, barking and desperate for some attention (not to mention, nourishment).  Cook County Sheriff deputies were alerted of the possible abuse by a neighbor in the area. Police found the dogs, all pit bull mixes, in devastating conditions.  Authorities said one female was emaciated and that five of the dogs were shackled with heavy chains with the others in wooden crates.   None of the dogs had access to food and water.

The woman is a 29-year old single parent of one who was a home health care worker at the home of the abused dogs but some believe she is not responsible for their care; yet she did nothing to help the animals for the incapacitated owner. Instead, she gave false identification to law enforcement and already had a traffic warrant against her for driving with no license (suspended). Rather than seeking help for the animals, she ignored them, kept them restrained and didn’t even give them a morsel to eat or clean water to drink.  Wouldn’t you think that lending a blind eye to these poor, living and caring creatures a form of animal neglect and abuse?  Absolutely it is!

Although charged with animal abuse, the public defender believed she was not responsible since the dogs were not officially hers. It is kind of like being the get-away car at a robbery; if not committing the robbery crime,  the driver is innocent?  This is a very serious crime that involves lives of living, breathing creatures dependent on humans for their survival!  It is absurd to think this woman had no responsibility of neglect and abuse for these dogs when she could have at least alerted the Humane Society or other officials if the owner was no longer responsible or able to give them the care required.  Authorities also checked for any signs of dog fighting at the home with no evidence of such.  All the dogs were rescued and are currently being rehabilitated.  People need to be more diligent and responsible in reporting animal abuse because those who do not are just as accountable as the abusers!!!

Dear Mayor and Governor:

Please enforce stricter laws for those who can make a difference like this woman who felt it not her place to care for and report abuse of animals.  Anyone who witnesses and actually contributes to the abuse and neglect of animals such as this woman should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law just as if they were her own.  She came into that home daily but neglected to show these living beings any care or concern!  She is just as guilty as the home owner who was too incapacitated to provide the dogs the care they needed.  Laws are just too lenient when it comes to animal abuse and neglect and need to be changed for more accountability.  Maybe if they were a little stricter, more humans would realize that animals are not just things but breathing, living, loving beings that deserve respect, attention and care.

Sincerely

A Caring Law-Abiding Citizen
