Iconic Calgary entertainer Buck Shot deserves a statue

Calgary icon Buck Shot (aka Ron Barge) of "The Buck Shot Show" deserves to be honoured as a highly influential figure in Calgary's entertainment community. As the host of the longest-running children's television show in Canadian history, from 1967 to 1997, Buck Shot, along with his sidekick Benny the Bear (AKA Jim Lewis, who played a number of other characters on the show) entertained legions of children with his music, gentle humour and sweet rapport with the many children that watched and visited his show. Countless Calgary children watched The Buck Shot Show almost every day, and still thrill to seeing their icon out and about in town in his signature hat, playing music, attending charity events or walking the route at the Calgary Stampede Parade (and he's never been appointed marshal!).

We envision a statue of this generous, kind-hearted Calgarian who delivered so many smiles to the young people of our city for 30 years on television, and many years thereafter. We feel a fitting location for such a tribute would be a family setting, such as a park, or the new Calgary Stampede Youth Campus. Please sign the petition to declare your support for a Buck Shot (and Benny!) statue, and feel free to share your memories of watching or meeting this Calgary icon!
