Please Help us Save Masonic Park Nursing Home!
Masonic Park is a level 3 nursing home in Mount Pearl, NL. It is home to 40 residents who, for the most part, have some degree of cognitive impairment or dementia. This is not an institution. This is a close knit community of staff, residents and families who support and care for each other in a way that is rarely seen this day in age.
The Liberal government has decided to axe funding to Masonic Park as a cost saving measure in the 2016 budget. They claim they will save 1.8 million however an initial look at he books indicate this is an exaggerated number. The majority of the cost of Masonic Park goes to salaries and residents care. This will NOT be saved if the facility is closed down and residents are moved!
There are many reasons - ethically, financially, socially - why this is a terrible decision for the people of our community and province. Please support us and sign this petition to say NO to closing down the Masonic Park Nursing Home!

I am contacting you regarding the recent decision by the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and Eastern Health to cut funding, and, as a result, close the Masonic Park Nursing home in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador.
This facility is a well maintained, well staffed nursing home that provides a safe and happy quality of life for the 40 residents who live there. The families of these residents demand you cancel this closure and we support them in their efforts.
Our population is aging at a steady rate and, in addition to those seniors already waiting for long term care beds - there will be an increased demand with each passing year. Closing long term beds make no sense and so any new resources should be alloted to acommodate the existing shortage of long term care beds rather than close a facility that is safe, secure, and serves its residents well.
The cost savings you claim will come from this closure are disputed and are certainly not worth the human cost they will exact on the vulnerable residents who reside there.
The only correct decision in this case is to cancel the closure of Masonic Park Nursing Home.
