Justice for Lacey

On behalf of Lacey, a dog that her owner severely abused her and left her chained to die without medical attention for her injuries. On December 4, 2010, Robert Gonzales poured jalepeno juice down Lacey's throat, taped her mouth shut, tied her to a tree and hit her in the mouth with a golf club, leaving her to die. Now, 5 months later, Gonzales has entered a plea of no contest in this case, in exchange for a plea agreement in which the Kern County District Attorney has agreed to ask for no more than 16 months in prison for the offender. Although Gonzales does not refute the charges against him, he does not admit guilt for the crime he committed and has asked the court for a mere sentence of probation. This is simply not enough for the crimes that this individual has committed and our judicial system has got to take these crimes seriously.

Gonzales' sentencing has been postponed until May 18, 2011 in order for the presiding Judge Michael Lewis to investigate further into counseling programs that could possibly serve in the rehabilitation of Gonzales. Even Judge Lewis feels that Gonzales  is "a marginal candidate, if not completely unsuitable for probation." This says something if even the judge feels this way about this offender. We are very limited on time, so act now. Be the voice that can make things happen for this little dog.

What we ask is that you take a moment to sign the following petition on behalf of Lacey and all other innocent, defenseless animals like her that have fallen victims to the ruthless and heinous crimes committed by humans such as Gonzales.

Please be polite in your pleas for justice for Lacey, as rudeness never gets the response you are seeking.
We the undersigned would like to ask that Lisa Green-Kern County District Attorney, Felicia Nagle-Prosecuting Attorney, and Superior Court Judge Michael Lewis make every effort to achieve the maximum punishment allowed by California State Law against Robert Gonzales, the man who has entered a no contest plea in the animal abuse case against Lacey, the offenders pet dog. This individual has a somewhat lengthy criminal record, although some charges have not resulted in conviction, and it is of great concern to those in Kern County California, as well as nation and world wide, that this individual must be punished for his admitted crime and not be allowed to do a mere sentence of probation, as this could possibly lead to an escalation in the severity of any future crimes he may commit. It is also of great concern that only sentencing this individual to "counseling" may result in an increased anger and resentment towards animals, as well as those who witnessed and reported the crimes he has committed.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read our letter and for giving careful consideration to all aspects of this case and its outcome.
