Please sign and share this petition as we extend our efforts in saving the Malayan tiger that is declining in numbers by the hundreds. Most often, the drastic danger of the tiger is due to poachers and development of their habitat. Help to save this critically endangers species before they are erased completely from the environment.

A spokesman for the Department of Wildlife and National Parks along with the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers known as Mycat states that "Poaching for illegal commercial trade is the greatest and most urgent threat to tigers in Malaysia, followed by loss and fragmentation of forests." Additionally, comments show that "Intelligence has also indicated a sharp increase in the number of trespassers and poachers in forests across the region since 2012, most often occurring right under our noses."

“As an apex predator, tigers play a vital role in our ecosystem. If the tiger goes extinct, their prey species, which mostly consist of herbivores, have the potential to become overabundant as a natural regulating mechanism no longer exists. This will, in turn, affect the whole food chain. Tigers require large swathes of forest to survive, so when we save a tiger we also save their habitat and a whole range of other species that exist in that area. Even our own survival depends on it as the forest provides us with water, oxygen, medicinal plants and other important resources which people seem to take for granted."

If the numbers continue to drop with the tigers in danger as they are, the Malayan tiger as we know it will be extinct. People have been sentenced and jailed for possession of tiger skins, the skulls and elephant tusk, along with other tiger parts; yet the crimes continue and the tiger numbers decrease. Since deforestation and rapid development shrinks the habitat of tigers, but the biggest threat is poaching as their parts are used in traditional Chinese medicine, we need to encourage local authorities to step up their laws and repercussions for offenders.

Malaysian Government Officials - Please work along with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks along with the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers known as Mycat in implementing stricter, more specific laws against tiger killing, trading of body parts and poaching that is causing a drastic decline in the numbers of the Malayan tiger population. Include in those laws that their habitat not be disturbed, displacing the animal and its existence. These new laws need to be strictly enforced with severe repercussions for any individual that abuses them and the Malayan tigers that are in danger of extinction.
