Demand your school district to send kids with headlice home, until treated and cleared by nursing staff of some sort.

As a mother of two, and a cosmetologist of 13 years I've seen this to be a real issue in my school district of USD 457 in Garden City, Ks. When I was school age, all students in the district were periodically called into the office and checked for head lice. If they were infected, they were then discretely sent home to be treated and allowed to come back into the school when checked and cleared by the school nurse. That's is no longer the case. Not only are there zero students checked, If a student DOES In Fact have head lice they are to stay at school until the end of the day. Im my eyes, my peers, co-workers, fellow moms and hairstyling professionals, feel that this is just ridiculous. No child should have to go to school with nits and bugs in their hair all while potentially passing it to other students and teaches. This problem is both expensive and time intensive to take care of. My solution; by-monthly check ups in the office by the school nurse and volunteers. If a child has nits or lice, they should be sent home until cleared.
