We the undersigned believe it is unethical to hold Joseph Lantz responsible for his emotional outburst upon receiving the news that his parents were both deceased. We would like you to take into consideration the emotional aspect behind the loss of his parents. Many of us in the community sympathize with Mr. Lantz. Additionally, we respect the great work the Eau Claire Police Department and the District Attorney's Office does to keep us safe. We the undersigned do not feel as though based on these circumstances that Joseph Lantz is a threat to our safety and our community. He should not be punished in the same regard as those persons with malicious intent to resist officers and to harm others. We the undersigned, believe that Joseph has been punished enough by being detained (even in regards to his own safety) and we do not feel it is necessary to have his actions follow him for the rest of his life in the form of a permanent criminal record. We respectfully ask that the District Attorney's office immediately dismiss Eau Claire County case number 2017CM000189, and allow Joseph and his family to begin healing from their tragedy.

As some of you are aware, Joseph Lantz is currently being charged with resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. These charges emerged immediately after Joseph Lantz lost both his parents in a suspected murder/suicide. It is reasonable to assume that Joseph was in shock at the time. He attempted to gain entry into the active crime scene, despite the officers insturcting him otherwise. This petition was created to request that all charges be dropped against Joseph. If you feel as though he deserves a second chance please sign and pass it along to others. Also, I suggest that anyone who wishes to support Joseph Lantz also reads through the local news articles in order to provide a fully informed signature. Thank you for your time.
