Dear honourable Principal,
With due respect, we beg to inform you that we truly appreciate the school's scholarship system.
Unfortunately the scholarship system was calibrated in accordance to the previous educational curriculum, Edexcel.
And of late, the school has shifted to a much standardised and significantly more challenging curriculum, Cambridge International Examinations.
In edexcel, for each of the science subjects there were 2 papers to sit for, whereas for each subject we had to sit for 3 papers!
Furthermore, for general maths, they had 2 similar courses , Maths A and Maths B (one of which is quite simplified and easy).
We have only General Maths which is much more comprehensive.
Similarly, For biology they had an additional subject named Human Bio, whereas in our curriculum The subject biology already includes
Human Biology and is thus equivalent to 2 subjects!
Also not taking into account the recent misfortunes and the pandemic of the century, for which the students are further disadvantaged by the predicted grading system.
Hence, previously well-off students could easily have taken as high as 11 subjects and there were many students obtaining 9 As*.
But now the case is certainly very different, well-off students can hardly take 9 subject, and there are not many who did so, and its a question of simple probability, that as number of subjects declines, so should the probability of getting an A*.
And so we, the hopians, believe that the school will perceive this problem and make the following changes:
100 percent fee waiver for 8 A*
75 percent fee waiver for 7 A*
50 percent fee waiver for 6 A*
25 percent fee waiver for 5 A*
For the IGCSEs
And for the A Levels:
100 percent fee waiver for 5A*
75 percent fee waiver for 4A*
50 percent for 3A*
We are all aware about the grade scaling system and how every year the grade boundary changes. This is but a mere attempt at downscaling the scholarship criteria in order to make it more fair and equitable.
We sincerely hope from the very depths of our hearts that the school will take this under consideration and update the scholarship criteria and not completely disregard our opinions.
