Reading some other petition signers' comments about the lack of screening of petitions on this site, it becomes apparent that we need to come up with a process through which petitions that are false or lack qualities deemed necessary by Care2 members can be screened out.
- I propose the inclusion of a Face-palm button that petition signers/readers can press to highlight petitions that fail to meet standards.
- I would also like to see a short, bullet-point reference page that new members have to read when they join and that existing members can inspect. This page would outline when the 'face-palm' button should be used. Members would be consulted - perhaps through a voting system or other feedback process - about the standards we agree on for petitions. For example, I would be in favour of advising people to 'face-palm' a petition that is unfocused in its targets (i.e. does not have a specific person to which the petition will be delivered on completion) but I would not be in favour of 'face-palming' a petition whose language use is not perfect.
- Which brings me on to another change I would like to see: A way that someone who is not very good at writing English can have their petition improved by another member that writes well. Maybe this should just be encouraged and members can say on their profiles whether or not they are able and willing to help people improve their petitions and in what ways.
- Last point: I would like to be able to edit my signature on petitions after I sign - be able to both remove my signature entirely, And add/change my attached comment. Sometimes, after learning more about an issue/petition, it is desirable to remove one's signature from something previously signed. Likewise, more education about an issue can make people want to add or edit a comment they made on a petition. If the petition is still in the signing phase and hasn't yet been delivered, it would be good to allow these changes by individual signers.
