Fund Safe From the Start Programming, Now!

Since 2001, Safe from the Start programs across the state have been providing services to children below the age of 6, as well as their caregivers, who have been exposed to violence in their home and/or community. There are 11 social service agencies that provide psychotherapy to young children and their families; as well as coordinate public awareness activities and community coalitions. Specialized interventions for children exposed to violence can prevent future physical and mental health problems as well as involvement in the criminal justice system--a large fiscal burden compared to the relatively small amount currently invested in Safe from the Start. Preventative care is the key to reducing/ addressing many of our social problems.
Restore and grow funding for Safe from the Start, and create a network of care providers for children exposed to violence and their families.
