Support NYC's Plastic Bag Tax!

New York City's legislators are considering a bill that would place a 10-cent tax on disposable plastic shopping bags.

According to the Nature Conservancy, New Yorkers throw away 10 billion plastic bags per year, many of which end up as litter. As the plastic degrades, it releases toxic chemicals that harm the environment. In addition, they present a choking hazard to wildlife and make the city look trashy.

A plastic bag tax would encourage people to bring their own recyclable shopping bags while still offering the option of disposable bags for impromptu purchases. This would put a huge dent in plastic bag litter, improving environmental health and the city's aesthetic.

We, the undersigned, are writing to support a bill that would place a 10-cent tax on disposable plastic shopping bags.

According to the Nature Conservancy, New Yorkers throw away 10 billion plastic bags per year, many of which end up as litter. As the plastic degrades, it releases toxic chemicals that harm the environment. In addition, they present a choking hazard to wildlife and make the city look trashy.

We believe that a plastic bag tax would encourage people to bring their own recyclable shopping bags while still offering the option of disposable bags for impromptu purchases. This would put a huge dent in plastic bag litter, improving environmental health and the city's aesthetic.

We respectfully urge you to vote "yes" on the plastic bag tax. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.h
