Save Wolves and Other Imperiled Wildlife from Rand Paul's Species Endangerment Act

  • by: A. Ward
  • recipient: US Senators

On May 6, 2015, the Committee on Environment and Public Works held hearings on S.855 — The Endangered Species Management Self-Determination Act.

The bill, introduced by presidential hopeful Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), would effectively gut protections for many of our most imperiled animals, including as the Mexican Gray Wolf, polar bears, and Northern right whales.

Aimed at making it easier for states, localities, companies, and property owners to skirt the ESA, Paul's bill threatens vital protections that have effectively saved species like the bald eagle, black footed ferret, and California condor from disappearing in the wild. Instead, Paul's legislation would allow states and localities to decide which animals and wildlife habitat are worth protecting… and which are not.

Stop Rand Paul from sabotaging efforts to save animals like wolves, polar bears, and whales from extinction. Urge your US Senators to oppose S. 855.

Dear Decision Maker,

As someone who is concerned about protecting wildlife for future generations, I strongly urge you to OPPOSE S. 855, Senator Rand Paul's misleadingly titled "Endangered Species Management Self-Determination Act."

Aimed at making it easier for states, localities, companies, and property owners to skirt the ESA, Paul's bill threatens vital protections that have saved species like the bald eagle, black footed ferret, and California condor from disappearing in the wild. Instead, Paul's legislation would allow states and localities to decide which animals and wildlife habitat are worth protecting… and which are not.

Senator Paul's bill allows -- and implicitly encourages -- local entities and property owners to sacrifice animals endangered animals and the habitat wildlife needs to survive for the sake of short-term financial gain.

Nature is important, and the Endangered Species Act is one of America's most effective tools for protecting our natural heritage. I strongly urge you to safeguard the Endangered Species Act and the wildlife it protects by OPPOSING S. 855.

Sincerely,
