Bluefin face thousands of fishing boats, using miles of hooks and large encircling nets, that are out there looking to land a great Atlantic bluefin.
Population declines of nearly two thirds since the 1970s can only be reversed in one way -- by ending overfishing now.
The National Marine Fisheries Service is proposing some changes to existing regulations, but sadly they don't go far enough. The agency's proposal compromises to such a degree that it locks in business as usual, perpetuating the overfishing that is driving these mighty, warm-blooded fish to the brink of extinction.
