Demand for Answer RE: Hydrogen Sulfide Exposure in White Marsh, MD

During the months of August and September2018 a pervasive and wide spread, strong "rotten egg" odor overwhelmed the White Marsh community. After numerous public inquiries to the Honeygo Reclamation Center, in early September the culprit of the foul odor was found to be "hydrogen sulfide" -containing "leachate" which is permitted by Baltimore County to be dumped into the public sewer system by Honeygo Reclamation Center. It was also determined that both the MDE and Baltimore County were aware of the incident, yet neither organization notified any members of the community - residents nor businesses. During August and September, thousands of people were affected by the strong "rotten egg" odor, and hundreds of people experienced symptoms consistent with hydrogen sulfide exposure. Baltimore County government has yet to officially communicate with the thousands of residents of White Marsh who were affected by the overflow of hydrogen sulfide into the sewer system.

We want to know, "What is the public health impact of the hydrogen sulfide exposure to the White Marsh community?" "When was Baltimore County notified of the high levels of hydrogen sulfide?" "What actions have been taken by Baltimore County to ensure the health and safety of the residents of White Marsh?" "What were the results of the hydrogen sulfide readings taken by Baltimore County at local manhole covers?" "What were the dates/times/locations of the results?" "What are the implications of test results?" "What future monitoring will be done to ensure that this situation doesn't occur again?"
