We have a horrific atrocity taking place in our little rural township in Penn Run, Pennsylvania.
Animal cruelty in Pennsylvania is very vague when it comes to an individual trying to shoot an animal and get away with it. As these cruel individuals are trying to do!
Here is our story:
On December 14th 2014 we came home from being gone out of state for the last 3 months. We take our fur-kids with us when we are gone away from home. My husband Harold came home with three of our animals to safely secure them while we were going to pick up our motorhome and drive it back home. We work out of state and as I have indicated they are never left alone. When Harold got home, unfortunately our chocolate lab Hershey and our basset hound Chester bolted out the door. We live on 24 acres and the boys headed for the hills. In a matter of minutes no more than 7 Harold was in the truck looking for them to get them into the truck to get home. My husband had gone up their driveway saw nothing so started down to look elsewhere. It was when my son heard the 2 gun shots had been fired he went up that driveway and at the back porch and there was a lady and a man standing at their back porch with our basset hound dead in front of them executed with a bullet in between his eyes and bled out at their back porch. My son asked what they had done and they admitted to shooting and killing Chester. However not once was it mentioned that they had shot our chocolate lab Hershey. The lady stated that she felt threatened and shot the dog. Also indicated the collars were orange so she thought they were mean hunting dogs. When in fact the orange collars are the high vis colors to ensure people see them. The friend that was with him asked the people what have they planned on doing with Chester being he was dead. They responded with they were going to bury Chester. Meanwhile my husband was looking for hershey not knowing he had been shot and here he came through the woods with a gunshot wound that was aimed towards the middle of his forehead again execution style but in fact he jerked and the bullet went in his eye down his throat through his soft palate and out his neck. The part that is not understood is, if in fact they were threatened by a 22 month old basset hound why on earth did they grab him by the collar and he slipped the collar they grabbed him again by the scruff and shot in between the eyes killing him. The chocolate lab Hershey jerked away when they got a hold of his collar which saved his life. The police were called which out here is the state trooper an incident report was taken however no contact with the individuals was ever made. It was not until the next day when I went to get Chesters collar to bury him did the female open up a top window and asked what did I want. The troopers card was still on the front door. It is understood that an individual can protect their property however they lured our dogs to the back porch to execute them . The trooper finally took a statement from the female over the phone he stated he had seen dog prints by their chicken coop. We do not know these neighbors I have never seen them spoken to them or otherwise. The trooper stated in the manner that the dog was shot was cruel. And the statement she shot the dog seemed strange because if you are in fear, why would you grab the collar have it slipped and grab it again. Our dog Hershey was in the hospital 7 days. He was home and Saturday 12/3 was put back in the hospital for additional surgery to remove the eye. He was blinded from the original shot. I have a Facebook page Justice for Chester and Hershey. The trooper stated as I have called him several times the district attorney's office refused to file charges. I called the district attorney's office today and spoke with an investigator and he will be getting back to me that is the hope. Our dogs have not been a nuisance ever I don't know these people our dogs have been with us for the past 3 months out of state December 14th was their first day home. We have a sign that is 8 feet long 3 feet wide in our front yard that I will attach pictures of I have not sent previously any of the graphic pictures or posted any of them. I will attach for you to see . I have called news sources around, there not interested this is a very big hunting area I am a transplant from Southern California going on five years I am familiar with investigations, and part of an investigation is to get statements from all witnesses my son and our friend has yet to be contacted to make a statement . So how can the DA make a decision not to file charges without all the information.

I am not going to worry about the Vet bills etc. I want the criminals to be charged accordingly and a full investigation be done. Is that so much to ask? Lastly, I have heard a dog up there, and yet their dog was no where around when everyone was up at their house. The trooper included, what else may be up there?

I sure would appreciate any and all light be placed on this. We have traveled all over the United States with my husband and his company and have everyone that has met our furkids say, No way were those boys viscous in any way! And are willing to go to court to state that, and have expert witness that are willing to testify that the breeds are not a mean breed at all.

In the meantime, our Black Labrador Bruce and I will await my Hershey to come home, and hope that someone sees the cruel manner and gross injustice for our Furkid!!

Lastly, the individuals admitted to the Trooper that Yes, indeed they had shot our dogs.

Update #19 years ago
Thank you very much for your support! Indiana County District Attorney, Patrick Dougherty on Tuesday 1/6, the investigation will be re-opened and statements from the witnesses will be taken. It is because of the out pouring of support this will happen. Animal Cruelty will be the Charge. Please keep sharing! Hershey has had to have another surgery. He looks at me and it breaks my heart. Thanks and know you have made a difference! Facebook: Justice for Chester and Hershey
