Urge the Australian Government to Stop any New Coal Developments to Help Halt Climate Change

The UN climate chief says the science is clear - there is “no space” for any new coal developments in Australia, according to a report in The Guardian.

Coal is recognised as one of the greatest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and at a recent meeting in Australia, UN climate chief Christiana Figueres along with federal, state and territory administrations agreed to work more closely to explore renewable sources of energy.

After the meeting took place, Figueres said Australia needed a national consensus to achieve a “maximum possible effort” in the battle to avoid dangerous climate change.

However, Australia is set to open its biggest coal mine – the Adani in Queensland, which is also seen as a significant threat to the Great Barrier Reef. The Adani mine is alleged to entail six open-cut pits and five underground mines.

Stopping the development of the Adani mine would be a great place to start the fight against climate change.

Will you join me in urging the Australian government to stop any new coal developments – including the Adani mine, to help halt climate change and to explore renewable sources of energy?
