legalize marijuana

Target:
stimulate the economy and restore debt

They say desperate times call for desperate measures and we are definitely in desperate times. The biggest problem about the US economy is that we dont make anything anymore. We closed the textile mills and now get our clothes from China, we get our electronic goods from Japan, our food from God knows where.

America was sent into a depression 80 years ago after the US made alcohol illegal . During that time organized crime flourished while the economy suffered. America did not bounce out of that depression til after they made alchohol legal again in 1933.

If there is anything Americans know how to make, market and distribute, its marijuana. America has been marketing marijuana for years through music, movies, comedy and t-shirts. Illegal botanists have been making various high powered strands of marijuana while the US hasnt had an agricultural innovation since the peanut.

Already many states have big problems with overcrowded prisons that they cannot afford to fund. Wouldn't it be better to let out the marijuana smokers then the rapists, thieves and killers.

America has not had a cash crop in years. Sugar and the rum trade gave the Americas its first economic boom. Tobacco gave it its second. America has a long history of making money of drugs.

People have reported that marijuana is the nation's biggest cash crop, more than corn and soy combined. It is said that marijuana is responsible for $36 billion annually in the USA, none of which is taxed.

Today we are paying farmers not to grow crops. If farmers were allowed to grow marijuana, they would not need anymore subsidies and also be able to create badly needed jobs in the agricultural industries.

If weed were legalized, farmers would also be able to grow hemp which can be used to make clothes, fuel food and many other things. It would be nice for America to have a product to export rather than importing everything, hemp could fill that role.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin all grew hemp our last three presidents have smoked marijuana. One third of all Americans have smoked marijuana. Half of all 18 year old in America have smoked marijuana.

Almost 1 million people are arrested for marijuana in a year 90% for simple possession. How many police man hours goes into arresting, incarcerating and processing these smokers?

A lot of marijuana smoked in the states comes directly from Mexico or Canada. So the sucking sound from the bong is actually American money and jobs going to Mexico and Canada.. Many agricultural, packaging and distribution jobs are all being outsourced to
Mexico and Canada due to our strict marijuana laws.

Marijuana smokers are used to paying blackmarket prices for weed. If marijuana was to be legally cultivated, it could be produced and distributed legally and cheaply. The government could then tax marijuana heavily as marijuana smokers are already used to paying marked up prices. If the USA were to legalize marijuana, many other countries would follow and America could begin importing and exporting marijuana all over the world.

Making marijuana illegal does not stop people who want to smoke it from purchasing it only makes it more of a hassle, wasting time and money on behalf of both the government and marijuana smokers.

For those concerned about the affect marijuana on the American public, I don't have a survey or statistics on the affects marijuana have on people but I do know that many doctors, lawyers, politicians, police officers and good decent functioning people have smoke marijuana. When I was at Columbia one of the nation's most prestigious institutions as well as our President's Alma Mater it was harder to find someone who didn't smoke marijuana than it was someone who did.

Marijuana is the best thing in the world. Just like the prohibition during the depression, many Amerikans smoke weed n theyre not going to stop bekause its illegal. I'ts better than doing heroin or krack. weed just needs to be legal already so i kan be high in publik n not have everyone starin at me like im a methhead or something.

I can grow my own and roll my own and ease my own pain a lot cheaper with cannabis here in Texas than with any type of prescription pain killer offered on the market to date... Why then should I have to pay outrageous prices for prescription drugs that I can't afford, and that will harm my body when there is a natural and cheaper solution available? I don't understand it. I've been smoking weed since I was 16 and now I'm 60, and I've never had a problem with it leading me to desire a stronger form of addictive drug, and as far as smoking weed and vegging out, well I for one have work hard all my life because I chose to do so instead of stoning out on the couch, and now that I'm disabled and can't work, and on a fixed income, I just can't afford the high price drugs that the pharmacies have to offer... so with that being said... "LET ME LEGALLY GROW MY WEED DAMMIT"

So many people are being harassed by police from miidentification of plants and seed winding up on their properties from weather, birds and animals resulting in loss of jobs from police calling places of employment causing hardship and anxiety ,grief and so forth even when nothing was found!!!!!!! It all doesn't stop there -the same police terrorize the crap out of these victims, family and friends with their helicopters, planes and by all ways they come up with to terrorize these poor people!!!!!!!! This all happens to these victims while the police thugs and criminals are getting rich of of marijuana-the same things happened in the alcohol prohibition!!! We need to go ahead and put a smile on God's face and legalize marijuana for marijuana is one of God's beautiful plants that he created to be used freely and grown freely by his beautiful people!!!!!!

I fear each day of becomming sicken with may of the health probs some of my family has had. I hope to gain the use to help me if such things accure to me such as MS wich runs in my family. I have seen first hand how the effects can aid a suffer of MS and only pray that we as a world can stop such suffering with just a simple law that should have never been made. The Shafer file of 1972 by Presadent Nixon showed how harmless it was and in fact the potential for its help in medical fields. If there was a god he should stike each polition with MS or cancer so they can learn first hand its uses

It is ridiculous how much money we spend on arresting and housing prisoners for smoking a natural plant. We are not stopping anyone from this right to choose and it's costing us everyday to try, with absolutely no success. And to the generation that keeps trying to stop progress... let the younger generations decide their future. We have already seen the results of the bang up job you have done for our future. Thanks but no thanks... you had your chance. Retire and enjoy your creation... if you have any funds left to do so. Good Job!

if california legalized weed we would be putting countless drug gangs out of business and putting money where it counts which is the California economy which is in deep need of money right now and if we legalize it we could tax and use the money to help the state and its projects. so please stop wasting millions of dollars on the losing drug war and help california. even if u don't legalize it its not going to stop people from smoking it so might as well get some money out of it to help out economy.

Hypocrasy runs deep in the U.S.A. culture. Religious zealots have confused too many for too long. As the use of marijuana is and has been used for hundreds ( if not thousands of years in older cultures) medicinally, it is ridiculous of the government to consider it illegal. It grows with little help, has multiple positive uses, and since modern life has become stressful in the extreme, helps to neutralize the toxic effects of coping. And I have yet to mention the positive monetary effect it would have on the economy as a whole.

instead of a million man march lets have a million and a half pot head march to D.C. then light up. How are they going to control that many people? Just legalize it

weed should be legal. it is none of the governments business what you choose to do with your body. Cops are dicks about it too they will bust you and be dicks about it and then go home and smoke it themselves. the government just wants to wine about something stupid.

It definitely should be legalized already, however, I'm afraid it will never happen because our country, particularly the "small, rural police counties" have thrived on the money they have seized from people driving around with a joint in the car. The police add this money to their police budgets and this is all perfectly legal. The police budgets are banking on confiscating your money (if they catch you with a joint in the car) so they can fund police picnics, trips to Vegas, fishing trips, etc. If they legalized weed then the budgets for all these rural police counties would dry up because they could only collect money in relation to cocaine, meth, heroin, etc, which is trafficked a lot less than plain old weed. As it stands right now, they are confiscating millions of dollars a year, and most of it is in relation to marijuana drug seizures. (Who's the real drug dealer here? Sounds like the police to me!!) Read up on it people - this country is becoming a huge police state, which is why Americans were given the right to bear arms in the first place.....to protect ourselves (the little people) from a big police state (Government, i.e., police). Google Camden County Georgia's Sheriff to see how much money he has seized. The Sheriff there is in trouble because he's purchased $40,000 radar guns, boats, a Viper, etc., all with confiscated weed money. Camden county isn't the only rural county doing this either. They are all doing this all over the US. If we don't legalize weed now and put a stop to this then the police will become way too powerful. They have unlimited drug (WEED) money to fight you in court. Read up on it, please....I urge you. It would made your head spin. We need to evolve already, grow our economy, and LEGALIZE WEED! It would put some farmers back to work. Hemp is a great product too which is banned from being grown in the US because it looks like pot/weed.
